saftey first, best kids sunscreen for summertime fun!
My family is officially entering summer vacation, school is coming to an end and the craziness is about to begin.. Every year I promise myself that we will relax as much as possible, slow life down and try not to over schedule! Since that probably won't happen, keeping my kids active, healthy and safe is my top priority.
Since we spend much of our free time at the pool, a safe sunscreen to put on their skin is a must. I talk a lot about putting high quality, nutrient dense foods in your body, but it is just as important to be choosy about what you put on your families skin. Our skin is our largest organ, it absorbs all of the toxins and chemicals that conventional lotions, shampoos, body washes and sunscreen contain. Yes, this does make a difference to your health and easy to implement with lists provided to consumers from sites like EWG.org. This site gives consumers a rating system 1-10, so that you can decide what is safe for your family and what is available. I am most comfortable picking lotions with a rating of 1 or 2, but on some occasions will pick a spray with a 3 rating for convenience. Take a peek at the list of safest kids sunscreen for 2016 and get out there and have some fun!
Here are some of my favorites that I use for my family. All are conveniently available at local health food stores or through Amazon.com
- Badger, any lotion in their line is rated (1) and there face stick is great.
- Blue Lizard Australian Sensative SPF 30+
- California Baby Super Sensitive Sunscreen SPF 30+, great for kids with sensitive skin
- Alba Botanica Very Emollient Mineral Sunscreen
- Nature's Gate Kids Mineral Vegan Sunscreen
Now that you have great, safe products to put on your families skin, don't keep them out of the sun entirely. We all need some sun exposure, as it is the top source of Vitamin D. This helps our bodies absorb calcium for stronger, healthier bones and is great for immune boosting. It is a good rule to screen during high peak times 10am- 4pm, stay in the shade when sun feels too strong and reapply safe sunscreen every couple of hours.
Now enjoy your Summer!
